We just cleaned out the makeup drawer (read about it here). Now we should make sure the tools we use are good and clean too. I don’t know what kind of tools you have but you probably have some of the same ones I have. Blush brush, eye shadow brush, nail trimmers, tweezers, and eyelash brush.
The eye shadow, blush brush, and eye liner brush can be cleaned the same way. Warm water and a little bit of Beautycounter’s cleansing balm.
You haven’t heard of the cleansing balm before? It’s AMAZING! Most of the “normal” uses involve your face. Like as an over night mask. A deep clean for your face. Even as a natural highlighter. But it also works great as a brush cleaner.
I scooped up half a pea size amount of the cleansing balm. Added a splash of warm water and worked the eye shadow brush in a circle. You’ll start to notice the cleansing balm isn’t white anymore. Thats the junk that’s been collecting in your brush. UCK! After working the cleansing balm around for awhile give the brush a good rinse in warm water.
Depending on how long it’s been since you cleaned your brushes it may take a few cycles to clear out all the junk. My eyeshadow brush took a couple of rounds to get it clean. The blush brush was the most work. I used about the size of a dime the first round. Rinsed it then did it again with the same amount. But I noticed that there was still a lot of stuff in the brush, so I also used some of Beautycounter’s hand soap. The hand soap helped break up the product in the brush faster. You wouldn’t need to do this, it would just take more rounds with the cleansing balm.
After giving them a really good rinse just let them dry. I’d suggest giving them at least 24 hours, my blush brush took about 48 hours. Right now is a great time to do this, what with not having to go to work.
On to the shiny metal tools. Clippers & tweezers. All it takes to get these clean is hydrogen peroxide and a little brush (see the blue one in the above picture). Start by soaking the end of the clippers in the peroxide. I left mine in there a minute or so. Then I used that small blue brush to scrub away any stuff that was there. I did the same thing for the tweezers. A quick rinse and they are good to go!
Eye lash brush. You know the one you use to make sure those eye lashes are all in the right place. This one probably has mascara, which is tricky to remove. But I have the solution that will break it up. Put a few squirt of Beautycounter’s makeup remover in a shallow dish and let the brush soak. Depending on how much build up there is on your brush will determine how long it needs to soak. I soaked mine for a minute, rinsed it, then another minute. Now it’s gunk free.
One last tool. The eye liner sharpener. Mine had years of gunk on it. So it took a lot of soaking. And that little brush again. I even soaked it over night to really get it clean. After soaking it give it a good rinse and it should sparkle.
Wow does that feel better!?! Almost like 10 years of gunk has been washed away. How did you do? Did you run into any issues in the cleaning process? If so let me know below and I’ll help you solve them.
