You’ve taken the time to find some amazing products. You’ve got a great line-up of amazing items that you know will make your skin beautiful. BUT where do you start? There’s toners, serums, and oils. What goes on in the morning; what should you use at night; which goes first the face lotion or the eye cream. Oh its so overwhelming! I felt the same way.

But there’s no need to worry, I’ve got your back! I’ve even included a cheat sheet to help you keep track of the order you should try to apply your products.
Let’s start with a good clean face. You want to start here so the next products can properly absorb. First thing in the morning I like to start with the nourishing cream cleanser. Then at night if I’ve had makeup on I like to use Beautycounter’s makeup remover wipes (if I didn’t wear makeup that day I’ll use the cream cleanser). The makeup remover wipes are so gentile you can use them everyday; plus they are biodegradable, go ahead and put them in your home compost. And last but not least is the charcoal bar, this is the best at removing the most impurities. I get some wicked black heads on my nose, but this cleans it up every time. The charcoal bar can be used day or night, I would not suggest both. What a great way to start or end the day.

On to Toners. Oh toner what in the world are you. Well they use to be an alcoholic based step to dry out your skin. Which of course also agitated skin. But now toners are either for hydration or to help with acne prone skin. So toners are meant to prime your face for the upcoming products. And it shouldn’t feel heavy on your skin. This is the step I’m not good at doing, but I’m working on it. Do you have a favorite toner?

Serums are one of the heavy hitters of the skin care routine. But most of us skip using them cause we don’t really know what they are or how to use them. Serums are essentially shots of extremely concentrated nutrients, hydrators and antioxidants that really amp up your skin as soon as you apply them. And for night time I’d suggest using our Overnight Resurfacing Peel. This is one amazing serum; it will leave your skin glowing in the morning.
Eye Creams are lighter thinner face moisturizers so you want to make sure to apply them before the other creams and oils. A good rule of thumb when applying skincare is to apply the lightest first and heaviest last because the thinner products can’t penetrate the thicker products.
Spot treatments can be for lots of different problems. Acne, dark spots, or scars. It’s best to put these on at night because thats when your body’s working hardest to repair itself. No matter which problem you’re trying to clear up you’ll want to apply a small dab of the product to the spot (less is more in this case). Be sure to allow it to dry before moving on to the moisturizer.
Now that you have all this amazing product on your face its time for some moisturizer. The right moisturizer will infuse your skin with hydration and trap all the other products in and make them more effective. My favorite day and night moisturizers come from the Countermatch line from Beautycounter. For the day the Adaptive Moisture is amazing. At night I like Recovery Sleeping Cream. Whats so great about this line is it’s formulated to give your skin everything it needs and nothing more. So in the summer when its HOT and sticky your face will not be. And when winters DRY air is wrecking your face Countermatch to the rescue!
Last but not least facial Oils! Many people shy away from them because they are worried it’s going to be too much for their skin. Let me let you in on a secret, even those who have acne can use oils. Here’s another great thing about adding oil to your routine, they lock in all the other products on your face to help them be more effective. Oils can easily penetrate everything already on your face but those items wont get through the oil. Always add the oil after everything.
Oh wait! Theres one more step. SUNSCREEN! This is important for the day, even if you’re going to be inside. Some tips apply 15 minutes before going outside, use it even if you’re going to be inside or sitting in front of a computer all day. You’ll want to avoid any products with oxybenzone or octinoxate because these chemicals have been shown to mimic estrogen and interfere with the reproductive system. Now that you know what I know you’re a true pro. But if you ever get lost theres no need to worry. Remember I’ve got your back! Just print out this cheat sheet and tape it to your mirror. Thats where I keep mine. 🙂
